The Reasons To Go

  • The resort has often been dubbed the ‘Most Photogenic Resort in Asia” perched atop a 100-metre-high cliff, overlooking the Indian Ocean
  • Each villa offers a private pool with personalized butler and amenities
  • The resort offers access to 5 of the holiest and lesser visited temples on the south coast of Bali.
  • Energy consumption is kept to a minimum! Using recycled materials such as wood from railway sleepers and telephone poles, the unique design of each villa makes use of lava rocks on the roof, bamboo ceilings and window placement which encourages air-flow and minimises the use of lights and air-conditioning.
  • Alila Villas Uluwatu’s landscaping and architectural forms were derived from the local Bali savannah-like environment without intruding on the wild and seasonal surroundings. Using the idea of Bali’s rocky terrace fields and lush gulley, the architects have created architecture of terraced planes, which protect cool gardens.
  • Alila Villas Uluwatu follows a dedicated environmental and social sustainability policy that cultivates eco-friendly concepts through environmentally sustainable design principles.
  • There's a 24-hour gym, a yoga pavilion, an organic garden, and a stretch of beach reached by a cliff-hugging stairway comprised of 600 steps.

The Nitty Gritty

  • Accommodation:
Each individual villa is specifically designed and constructed to follow an environmentally sustainable framework, with its own pool and private cabana overlooking the Indian Ocean. The 67 villas showcase contemporary interiors enhanced with touches of nature and traditional Balinese accents – reflected in planes of wood, water, stone and rattan. Walkways and bridges connect the relaxation pavilions and pools to the spacious living areas. The open-plan design, unique flat lava rocks roof and bamboo ceiling allow the gentle sea breeze to circulate throughout all rooms of the villas.
  • Location:
Situated on an elevated plateau along the southern coastline of Bali on the Bukit Peninsula, conveniently located 30 minutes from Ngurah Rai International airport, and 15 minutes from the Uluwatu Temple.
  • Getting there:
Alila Villas Uluwatu is a 40-minute drive from the airport. You can rent a car at the airport but traffic can be hectic and the roads aren’t always of top quality (particularly away from built-up areas). Private transfers can easily be booked through the hotel for airport collection and drop off.
  • What to pack:
Dress code at the resort is smart casual - pack plenty of swimwear and shoes suitable for hiking up to the perfect sundowner spots.
  • Restaurants:
There are three restaurants and one bar at the hotel. Open throughout the day, the contemporary Western-style Cire has comfort cuisine inspired by the nautical surroundings. Across the pool, the more mellow Warung offers authentic Indonesian fare, from slow-cooked pork ribs to rice laced with coconut milk and spices. Finally, Quila serves a Mediterranean-inspired menu of creative dishes made with locally sourced produce, including beef carpaccio and carrot curry. Fancy a sundowner? Cosy up in the Sunset Cabana Bar for an evening of artisanal cocktails, perched over the cliff edge with fantastic ocean views.
  • Spa:
Choose from an extensive spa treatment menu that combines both Asian and Western therapy techniques and showcases Spa Alila’s special selection of natural active ingredients which are uniquely designed to regenerate and rejuvenate.
  • Signature Activities:
Speak to the concierge team about the “Journeys by Alila” - a series of customised activities designed to integrate indigenous nature, traditional culture and local community for an unparalleled experience. On offer at Alila Villas Uluwatu are full-day and half-day bespoke experiences that focus on spa and wellness, Balinese culture, arts and crafts as well as environmentally conscious excursions.

Bali is located in the tropics and enjoys a balmy year-round climate. The best time to visit (the high season) is May through to September. The humidity is much lower at this time, although there is still the chance of rain. However, it is much more likely to be an hour-long downpour, rather than all-day drizzle.
