The Low Down

COMO Uma Ubud is a luxury resort in the heart of Ubud. The contemporary Asian design of their 46 rooms, suites and villas are relaxed, sunshine-filled spaces. The restaurants, Kemiri and Uma Cucina, boast world-class cuisine while the Retreat at Uma Ubud focuses on holistic wellness, with active pursuits including temple visits, biking and trekking. Overlooking the Tjampuhan Valley and River Oos, the luxury hotel nestles amid rice paddies carved out of hillsides, backed by coconut palms and banyan trees. The open, clean and simple heart of the Ubud luxury resort comprises the lobby, 25m pool and bar. This contrasts beautifully with the narrow paths leading to the rooms and suites, which run between tall, lushly-planted walls. Interiors, which were designed by Japanese interior designer Koichiro Ikebuchi, feel like those of a rural hillside home. In each of the 46 light-filled rooms, suites and villas, a private tropical garden separates the bathroom from the principal living space.

At COMO Uma Ubud, dining focuses on modern, light cuisine that shows the utmost respectful for local nuances. Kemiri’s menu revives traditional Indonesian dishes while also offering contemporary interpretations of the cuisines of neighbouring countries. In addition to Asian dishes they have Uma Cucina, a restaurant and lounge bar with a street-side setting at the front of the hotel serving Italian-inspired food. They also have healthy COMO Shambhala Cuisine for those who like lighter, nutritionally rich menus and a special children’s menu offering for younger palates. Come and experience some of the calming spirit of Bali in each and every one of the Asian-inspired treatments at the resort’s COMO Shambhala Retreat. There are few places in Bali as serene as this, where twisting wooden paths are flanked by koi carp ponds and lush green jungle. Allow yourself to relax to the sound of the breeze as you indulge in an extensive range of massages, therapies and facials.
  • Signature Activities:
Rafting on the Ayung river: Float down the Ayung River, through Bali’s stunning natural flora, keeping an eye out for the local wildlife. The rapids provide an exhilarating thrill whilst experienced river guides ensure rafters’ complete safety at all times. The route also passes by COMO Uma Ubud’s sister property: COMO Shambhala Estate.
Canyon tubing and ATV: Ride a tube down the 6km ‘lazy river’, through a lush green canyon. Look out for local flora and fauna surrounding the crystal-clear water. You can also take a ride on a ‘flying fox’ zip line through the treetops – a chance to marvel at the size and scale of Bali’s immense forestry. After you’ve dried off, ride a quad through untamed jungles, villages and plantations, taking in Bali’s less travelled side.
Purification ceremony at Sebatu Holy Spring: With the help of your guide, experience the Balinese-Hindu ritual of ‘Melukat’, or ritual purification, at Sebatu holy spring – located near two ancient temples: Dalem Pingit and Kusti. Hindus see the ritual as a literal cleansing of the body and a symbolic cleansing of the soul, aimed at preventing misfortune and sicknesses. Sebatu, located 25 minutes north of Ubud, is one known as one of the most ancient and holy places in Bali for spiritual purification.
