Magic Moments in Mauritius

Offering a plethora of natural beauty, exhilarating activities, five-star hospitality and centuries old culture, the magical island of Mauritius enjoys a tropical climate with clear warm waters, brilliant white beaches and fabulous fauna and flora complemented by a melting pot of cultures, regions and cuisines.

Enjoying a mild tropical climate all year round with warm and dry winter months and hot and humid summers, the island is biodiverse, offering its visitors the chance to spot rare birds among soaring ebony trees on nature walks in the National Park, swim with dolphins off the west coast and encounter imported African animals at Casela, the island’s premier eco-adventure centre. Water babies will also feel at home with a wide variety of water sports on offer, including full day catamaran cruise or speedboat rides to visit Ile aux cerfs Island and their epic waterfalls. Mauritius is also home to a spectacular underwater ‘waterfall’ – a canyon that cracks open metres from the peninsula. Don’t worry though, the phenomenon is only an optical illusion – you wont be lost forever if you swim nearby!

For the nature lovers and adventurers, Mauritius offers a wealth of natural beauty and exciting activities. From the island’s 7-Coloured Earths of Chamarel, the Black River Gorges and two UNESCO World Heritage status monuments to the world-class golf courses of both Ile aux cerfs gold and Anahita (both less than 20 minutes from the resort), there is so much to see, do and enjoy. The island also offers rich colonial history that can be explored through the country’s fascinating local culture and variety of religious festivals. Their colourful history has given rise to French colonial mansions, each producing either fresh game and artisanal rum, or exotic plants. Le Morne Mountain, now a Unesco World Heritage Site, can also be found in the south, which used to be a refuge for runaway slaves in the 19th century.

With every moment providing an opportunity to explore something new, the island has an abundance of shopping destinations. From the local market of Central Flacq to the shopping village at Grand Baie and the hundreds of centres in-between selling locally made textiles, jewellery, sugar and local preserves; the island provides a haven for shopping lovers. For local products made in Mauritius, Port Louis, the islands capital, provides all the goods at their waterfront market. Meanwhile, guests searching for international brands can cruise Bagatelle Shopping Mall or La Croisette Mall. The island also houses an eclectic array of restaurants, cafes and bars ranging from the vibey Banana Beach club in Grand Baie to ARTISAN coffee and CAFÉ LUX, serving some of the best beans on the island. When it comes to delicious dining, visitors are encouraged to try The Chamarel Rhumerie with local food and stunning views or Chez Tante Atalie in Pamplemousses with its Creole specials served in front of the beautiful botanical gardens.
