• Location:
Hersonissos is found in the North of the island of Crete, Greece. Gorgeous beaches with calm waters thanks to the Cape Sarandaris which protects them from the northwest winds. The hotel is 27km east of Heraklion airport which is a 22-minute drive and 2km east of Hersonissos port.
• Getting there:
If you’re planning to hire a car from the airport or grab a taxi its an easy 22 minute drive straight down the E75. The team at Abaton are also available to arrange a private transfer, just get in touch before you travel.
• What to pack:
If you’re going outside of the hottest summer months then comfy shoes and socks and there’s so much to explore in Crete on foot and the area is popular for hiking. Pack a poncho or scarf for a potential chillier evening, other than that, we recommend your favourite stylish island apparel.
• Restaurants:
Abaton pleases every palate, offering a huge variety of international cuisine. Chef Zinon’s award-winning dishes are all served alongside shimmering backdrops of Cretan coastline. International brand Buddha Bar Beach goes beyond its neo-Asian walls and for the first time ever finds its home on the island of Crete, offering a unique dining & lifestyle summer experience on a breathtaking beachfront location. F-Zin Ivy League Restaurant offers a diverse selection of international and local cuisine, using its distinct Cretan flair to introduce guests to a number of authentic dishes. They open early in the morning for breakfast and again in the evening for a formal dinner. Bony Fish specializes in classic seafood cuisine on an outdoor deck surrounded by the azure waters. There’s also world class WOW Steakhouse, stylish Ladies and Gentlemen lobby bar and our favourite place for breakfast, Elemes Cretan cuisine.

The wonderful well known Elemis spa offers a 5 treatment rooms and a range of Spa treatments and packages featuring revitalizing and purifying products that have been designed to respect the body’s complex physiology. Every treatment is specifically designed to offer a unique experience, using powerful massage sequences and the most potent actives available in the world today. There are couples’ treatments as well as men’s facial, LED face therapy and treatments can also be done by the pool, on the beach or in your room.
• Signature Activities:
Passionate about sustainable tourism and protecting the environment, Abaton Island has worked with an expert team of marine biologists to create three guided snorkelling tours that give guests an exclusive glimpse of Crete’s underwater world.

Wine Picnic experience: Abaton will gladly offer you a journey to Cretan gastronomy in the most beautiful surroundings of local vineyards. Guests will receive a private meal in which their certified sommeliers will introduce them to the Cretan Vineyard through varietals and blends of local wines harmoniously accompanied by the pairing of a 4-course authentic Cretan dinner.
Horse riding: Odysseia Stables is a professional equestrian centre offering quality day treks, 2 hour hacks and riding lessons. They provide safe learning facilities as well as good school horses and a professional teacher to accompany you through the breath-taking countryside, making your experience the very best in equine Crete.
Scuba diving: Certified divers can enjoy fun dives from the boat to various locations. Guests are able to explore Crete’s waters in small groups for maximum safety and pleasure. Beginners are also totally taken care of with easy guided dives so it doesn’t matter what level you are. However, advanced divers can dive a unique WW2 airplane wreck.
  • All rates are incusive of VAT, taxes and service charges, a governmental accommodation tax is charged extra at the rate of 4 euros per room per night.

Each stay includes breakfast at either F-zin ivy league where they have an impressive breakfast buffet or at Elemes cretan cuisine (a-la-carte style).

Half board is also available at a supplement which includes buffet dinner at F-zin ivy league. guests on half board are entitled to a 25€ per person allowance for a-la-carte dining at WOW steakhouse, Buddha Beach Bar, Elemes Cretan cuisine and Biny fish, drinks aren’t included.

Top Tip

Most archaeological sites in Crete are open from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm, so plan to visit as early as possible to beat the tour buses – and the heat!
